Registration and details

In this workshop you will work with the UMO ensemble members to:

MOVE… begin by using the body and freeing it for developing expressive language, images and characters

WRITE… free writing that will then be transformed into character, image, gesture and story.

CREATE….building intensive images and gestures that tell a story as a group, by creating compositions with the body in a spontaneous ensemble.
Create a physical story in one day!

Elizabeth Klob has been creating physical theater for 25 years. She is a graduate of SUNY Purchase professional actors training program. She began working with the UMO Ensemble in 1999, when regular theater proved unsatisfactory, and has been creating pieces with them ever since. She functions primarily as director and creative visionary. Among the influences in her technique are Lecoq, Viewpoints, Grotowski, circus artists, clowns, aerial performers, acro balance and martial arts practitioners. She is also a costume designer and enjoys creating the story from the skin of the character out. Her favorite pieces to date have been Red Tiger Tales, Rapunzel, See Me Naked, Fatal Peril and FAIL BETTER: Beckett Moves UMO.

UMO began their creative collaboration in 1989. The company is a committed Ensemble who creates original productions. The Ensemble’s creative process is rooted in physical theatre. Improvisations in movement, character, vocalizing, and writing spawn new works. To date, UMO has created over 25 pieces of original, award-winning physical theatre. http://www.umo.org/
