The Turn of the Screw
by Jeffrey Hatcher
Directed by: Rod Hipskind
Adapted from the Novela by Henry James
Produced by: Angela Santillo
Location: TJT, San Francisco
An electrifying production of Henry James’ classic novella. At turns tragic and terrifying, The Turn of the Screw centers on an unnamed governess and her two orphaned charges – who find themselves in a house filled with ghosts. Directed by foolsFURY member Rod Hipskind, the show was infused with our vibrant physical style, and deftly turned the audience/performer relationship on its head. Using explosively inventive staging, The Turn of the Screw is a layered and delicate exploration of madness, death, and love. Presented in the FURY Factory 2007, and then as part of the San Francisco Fringe Festival on a double bill with Banana Bag and Bodice’s The Sewers.
“FoolsFURY [is] one of the brightest stars on San Francisco’s experimental theater scene.”
—SF Fringe Festival, 2007
“Thrilling [and] ingenious…The production’s beauty is in its sheer inventiveness.”
—San Francisco Examiner
